It’s so easy to fall into a pit of overwhelming stress when you are planning something as big as a wedding. The details. The money. The people who aren’t on the same page as you. All while trying to nurture a relationship as you plan a future together.
You hear it from all of our Real Hope’s Brides: Try not to sweat the small stuff. What matters in the end is that you are married to the love of your life.
But HOW do you not freak out when the napkins don’t match the bridesmaid dresses? Or soon-to-be sister-in-law throws a fit at your bachelorette party? Or your dad is running late on his way to walk you down the aisle?
Breathe. Things are going to happen. One of the best pieces of advice a friend gave me before my wedding was to expect one “big” thing to go wrong. In her case, the photographer she had booked sent his assistant while he went on vacation. In my case, only half of my assorted desserts were delivered. Did that RUIN either of our days? No. It was still the best day of my life so far! If you EXPECT something to go wrong, it’s not going to knock you out if something does happen.
We all know that we get let down when our expectations are too high. We envision the “perfect” day for our wedding. (Thank you Pinterest and “Style Me Pretty”!) But pictures don’t show the whole story. NO WEDDING GOES PERFECTLY SMOOTHLY. But every wedding should be perfect for you. It’s a part of your love story. No story is interesting if there is no problem, so roll with the punches! Laugh! Enjoy! Realize having your husband by your side is everything you need for a perfect day!
And spend time focusing on what IS perfect. “On God my salvation and my glory rest; the rock of my strength, my refuge is in God. Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.” Psalm 62: 7-8
We pray that you would find peace and joy in God’s perfect love as you plan your wedding, as you say “I do” and as you live a life of FAITH, HOPE and LOVE with your husband. God’s blessings to you!
