The real wedding story of Kayla and Jeremy is a story of Christ’s love. We greatly admire and appreciate Kayla’s witness as she describes their special day last June. She describes their wedding as, “a worship service giving glory to God for blessing us with each other, but more importantly for giving His son Jesus to be our Savior.”
Kayla and Jeremy met through his sister. Kayla says their courtship was about letting Christ guide them. “Life is something that has many changes. There are ups, downs, blessings, struggles, hopes, disappointments, grace, happiness, and much more. Being able to journey through this with someone to help you along the way is a real treasure; but being that treasure to someone else is just as wonderful. Knowing that we would be going through life together is what led Jeremy to propose marriage.”
Jeremy thoughtfully picked out Kayla’s ring to symbolize Christ at the center of their world, as it has one big stone in the middle of two smaller stones. He proposed at Kayla’s grandparents’ house because of how they had modeled a marriage reflecting God’s love. They set a date to wed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Columbia, IL.
Kayla admits she is not much of a planner, so she recommends new brides ask for help from those who enjoy it. She ended up taking a road trip to Iowa, knowing several of her cousins had shopped at Hope’s through the years and her godmother would be there to help her with the process. She found her Maggie Sottero Mabel gown that day. “I felt as though the consultants really knew what they were doing. They were completely fine if a dress they suggested wasn’t what I was looking for; they simply looked for another dress and let me look around as well. I felt as though they just wanted to help me find a dress that I would feel good wearing. That was important to them, even if it took a few tries.”
The day of the wedding was all about celebrating their love in Christ, and they cherished sharing the time with family and friends. As a special touch, it was the same day as her godparents’ wedding anniversary!
The newlyweds traveled to Maui for their honeymoon. They hope to visit all 50 states together and figured Hawaii was a big one to cross off their list.
“Married life has been an adventure, and having someone to cherish is a wonderful thing! My advice to newlyweds would be to put God first in your marriage and in life. He has set the example of real love. His love for us helps us put things into perspective. God has this kind of irrational love for us, which is just amazing, and keeping Christ in your marriage will help love stay in your marriage,” Kayla says.
Kayla and Jeremy, we are so happy you have each other to share this life and thankful for the testimony your marriage provides. Many blessings on the years ahead!
