Hailey and Chris created a rustic Iowa City wedding with elegant touches. The Hawkeye fans were careful to plan their October wedding around the Iowa football schedule and included fun details to show their team spirit.
The couple met when Hailey was in college and began dating a few years later. After a couple of years, Chris proposed while they were on an evening walk on May the 4th, “Star Wars Day.” They chose to have a long engagement to be able to book their vendors on one of the few football-free fall Saturdays in Iowa City.
Hailey found her Essense of Australia bridal gown and Bill Levkoff bridesmaid dresses at Hope’s. “There were so many options, and working with them to have it altered was very easy too,” she said.
She advises other people planning their weddings to research vendors and advocate for what they want. “If you want to do something a little different, don’t be afraid to ask your vendors. And don’t forget to have fun!”
Hailey and Chris definitely had fun on their big day since they got to spend it celebrating with their best friends. They had a lot of handmade signs and decorations, and fun Hawkeye details such as Hailey’s garter, the men’s socks, and a surprise Herky the Hawk crawling out of the back of the wedding cake.
The Monday after the wedding, the newlyweds headed to Jamaica and stayed at an all-inclusive resort. “We were able to relax for the first time it seemed since we had gotten engaged. No more wedding planning and just getting to spend time together,” Hailey says. “It was fantastic!”
Hailey, thank you for being a Hope’s bride! I have to say we are just in love with your pictures in the rain! It’s good luck to have a rainy wedding day, right? Congrats to you and Chris, and many blessings on the years ahead!
Iowa City Wedding Vendors:
Ceremony: Newman Center, Iowa City
Reception: Clarion Hotel, Iowa City
Photographer: Paige Prior
“Paige was absolutely amazing to work with both for our engagement and wedding photos! It stormed and rained our entire day, and I was so worried our photos wouldn’t turn out well, but she reassured me they would be great, and she was right. I could not recommend her more!”
Florals: Nicole Reisen, florist from Waterfront Hy-Vee, Iowa City
“Nicole is an incredibly talented floral designer. She took the photos of other flowers that I liked as well as photos that inspired the decorations and really made the perfect centerpieces and bouquets. As someone who was a floral designer for a small period of time, I’m kind of hard to please. But I loved everything about our flowers!”
Catering: Waterfront Hy-Vee, Iowa City
“Chef Tracy was great to work with. We had a separate buffet for the kids that had macaroni and cheese and chicken strips. As a picky eater, Chef Tracy new I would prefer to eat the mac and cheese and had the servers helping him prepare plates for my and my husband so that we were sure to get food while we said hi to our guests. He also packaged everything up that was left over for us to take home.”
Tuxes: Skeffington’s Formalwear
“We had zero sizing issues and everyone looked great!”
DJ: Ultimate Entertainment
“They were fantastic! I probably drove them a little nuts for a week. They created a special track for our first dance, father/daughter dance and mother/son dance and it worked perfectly! Our DJ also noticed we were big Hawk fans with the little Hawkeye touches we had everywhere and played the Iowa Fight song, really personalizing the night for us.”
