Danielle and Cody perfectly pulled off a Great Gatsby themed wedding in Des Moines on August 8th. We love the rich gold tones and glamorous details of this real wedding!
The couple met on Thanksgiving in 2002 during Danielle’s senior year of high school. After meeting, Cody persisted to call her until they finally hung out a few weeks later. After that, they spent every day together until Cody was deployed in April of 2003 with his National Guard unit. Throughout his year-long service and Danielle’s first year of college, they continued their relationship by regularly writing letters. Last December 10th, exactly twelve years after their first date, he surprised Danielle with a proposal. “Cody is one of the most loyal, hardworking men that I have ever met other than my father. To say Cody lives up to the standard my dad set in my eyes is a lot. I can’t wait to start this new chapter with him.”
With a vision of Great Gatsby, Danielle set out to find the perfect wedding dress. Ultimately, it would be Maggie Sottero’s Maurine. “I found my dress online and called every bridal shop within 300 miles to find it. Hope’s was the only place that had it. I went to see the dress in person by myself and was scared to order it without trying it on as it wasn’t my size and was way too short (I’m 5’11”), but they assured me it would look great for my body type and they were right. The flutter sleeves are different than anything I had ever seen before and the detail of the dress helped me pull off the vintage look I was trying to achieve.”
Her favorite memories from the big day include the first looks with her dad and Cody. She also cherishes receiving a blue heart her mom had cut out of her late grandmother’s wedding dress to attach to her own. “It was also wonderful to spend our day with our favorite people in the whole world.” As a fun, personal touch, the couple took a wedding “selfie” after their first kiss.
Danielle advises brides to write everything down and stay organized throughout the planning process. “Don’t stress too much over the tiny details because if something goes wrong you will probably be the only one to notice!”
The newlyweds are planning a trip to Hawaii over Thanksgiving- what a perfect way to celebrate the holiday that brought them together 13 years before! “I know this is cliché, but my advice would be to enjoy your time together. The wedding day goes fast and the marriage is the most important thing.”
