Kaelyn and Troy’s Cedar Rapids wedding brought together a bunch of our favorite area wedding vendors. We just loved helping this fun wedding party, so we are excited to share the soon-to-be parents’ story and beautiful pictures with you!
Kaelyn and Troy met over five years ago at a friend’s and again 3 years later at a New Year’s party. “After a month of texting back and forth, Troy FINALLY got to courage to ask me out on our first date. As crazy as it sounds I knew it was different with him from the start.”
The couple was on their way to a wedding in Anamosa in June 2016 when Troy proposed. They were going to be really early, so they stopped to “check out a new fishing spot.” Troy led her across a beautiful bridge, where they shared a few kisses. Kaelyn remembers, “I was looking out over the water going on and on about how beautiful it was. I then heard Troy say behind me, ‘You have made this so hard to do all week.’ Apparently, he wanted to asked me a few other times during the week and I accidently ruined it.” With her hands trembling and tears running down her face, she screamed yes. “I wish I would have remembered all of the sweet things he had said to me, but I was so in shock that it’s all kind of a blur.”
They began to plan an October 2017 Cedar Rapids wedding at Usher’s Ferry. Kaelyn first visited Hope’s on her own to get an idea of what she liked. She scheduled a follow-up appointment to bring her group to shop with her. “The staff was AMAZING! I think I had about 10 people there. Kara was great; she opened a little early for us. She helped me get in and out of every dress and was so friendly.”
When her dress arrived, Kaelyn started to have some doubts if she chose the right one. “It needed a lot of alteration to fit my body the way I had imagined. I had to come back three different times because I was so picky. The owner came for the last fitting and made me feel so much better. My dress ended up being the dress of my dreams! I cannot thank Diane and Kara and all of Hope’s Bridal for making me feel so special on my special day!”
Besides her dress, Kaelyn and Troy found just about everything else they needed to outfit their wedding party! She chose three different shades of light pink for her bridesmaids, allowing each of them to choose her own style. The men rented gray tuxedos, and Kaelyn accessorized her gown with a veil, belt, and earrings.
Based on her own experience, Kaelyn ensures brides, “Don’t stress out before you get your dress altered. Alterations make a huge difference! Also, on your actual wedding day know not everything is going to go ‘perfect’. DO NOT let that ruin your special day. Roll with it, some of the things that go wrong end up being the best part.”
Kaelyn’s favorite moments of the wedding day were spent one-on-one with Troy, from their first look to their vows. She also loved the fun father-daughter dance she and her dad made up. As a unique touch, she had their moms’ and her grandma’s wedding dresses dry cleaned and displayed them on dress forms next to each couple’s wedding picture!
After the wedding, they enjoyed an amazing honeymoon in Puerta Vallarta. “We got to snorkel and see dolphins while we were deep sea fishing. We got a couple’s massage on the beach and went into town exploring a lot.”
“We are still madly in love and we still bicker plenty,” Kaelyn says about married life. She tries to pick her battles and not bring things up if it won’t matter in the future. “Marriage is supposed to be fun; keep it that way. And also, continue to “date” each other. Dress up, go out, remember why you feel in love in the first place!”
Kaelyn says she has the best husband in the whole world, and they are expecting a baby girl in July. Kaelyn and Troy, we are so happy for you, and we truly appreciate your business! We know you will make the best parents!
