Hope’s bride Emily met her husband Mike while they were in high school and each tagged along with friends on a bowling date. They immediately connected and began dating shortly after meeting. Seven years later, they celebrated their love in a romantic wedding in Dubuque!
After a Christmas Eve proposal, Emily and Mike had a long engagement since Emily was still in college and they wanted a summer wedding. Emily shopped at Hope’s for her bridal look and bridesmaid dresses. She found an amazing Kitty Chen gown with breathtaking back and accessories to match. She outfitted her bridal party in Bill Levkoff bridesmaid dresses in “mint” and “petal pink” for her maid of honor.
Their June wedding in Dubuque, IA was perfect with all the people there to support them. One of their good friends officiated the ceremony, making it very personal. They wrote their own vows, so one of Emily’s favorite memories is exchanging them. “They were so much more personal and sentimental and will forever be something I cherish about our day.”
Emily says, “We have been together for just over seven years and have made a lot of memories and grown a lot with each other. Now that we are married, we are looking forward to making memories together for the rest of our life.”
A week after their wedding, Emily and Mike left for a honeymoon in Maui, HI. They stayed in Lahaina. “It was beautiful everywhere you looked and was such a great way for us to spend time together just the two of us and relax after a long 18 months of planning a wedding,” she says. The two have varying styles of vacationing, but they were able to compromise and spend some of their time relaxing on the beach or by the pool, and some of the time exploring the island.
Life hasn’t changed too much since their wedding other than Emily has had to adjust to her new last name. “We are just trying to enjoy all of the moments together and really focus on being happy now. If I had any advice for newlyweds, it would be this, enjoy each other’s company and ALWAYS say I love you, pick up after yourself and help each other out. Marriage and relationships are not 50/50. Some days you may need to give a little more, and other days you might need to take a little more. Being married is like being a team and picking each other up when you need to.”
Congrats to you, Emily and Mike! Thank you for sharing your beautiful day with us, and we wish you a lifetime of happiness together!
