This romantic Real Wedding by Hope’s started with one of the most thoughtful proposals we have heard! A couple of years after Brooke and Caleb met in college through her roommate, Caleb planned an elaborate surprise involving Brooke’s whole family.
Late one night at her parents’ house, Brooke’s dad suddenly came in with a letter. “I found this in the mailbox and it says it’s for you,” he said as he handed it to Brooke. She opened it to find instructions: Wear clothes appropriate for being outside, get some bug spray, a flashlight, a camera, and hurry! Considering how late it was, Brooke was pretty confused and wanted to just go to bed and figure it out in the morning, but her parents told her she better follow the directions. Her family helped her gather everything on the list, and she headed to the location the letter indicated, a swing in her yard. There she found a sentimental note, a Bible verse, and directions to find the rest of the notes that would lead her to a special spot by the creek that ran near her house. After a half-mile walk, finding sweet note after note and being hurried along by her sisters, the last note said to put them all together for a clue. The first letter of each note spelled out “MARRIAGE”. As she got to the spot where Caleb was waiting, she saw he had the entire area lit with lanterns and candles. With a profession of his love, he got down on one knee to ask her to marry him.
Brooke and Caleb planned an outdoor wedding in her family’s Bellevue, IA valley for June 22. The wedding tied together rustic, country, romantic, and elegant elements to make a truly beautiful day. Brooke purchased her Essense of Australia gown, which perfectly fit the feel, from Hope’s. “The service was great, and they gave great advice and worked with what I wanted.”
Her favorite memories from the big day include how Caleb first looked at her, her dad walking her down the aisle, and being surrounded by family and friends, feeling their love and support. “Really, everything about the day was perfect!”
Caleb’s dad officiating the wedding and getting married where she grew up really made the wedding special and unique. Brooke says people still come up to her months later telling her it was the most beautiful wedding they had ever been to!
She advises brides to delegate the work load when planning their weddings. “Other people love helping out too, so trust them and give them something to do. At the end of the day you will be much less stressed, and your day will still turn out perfect even if you don’t have a part in every detail.”
After the wedding, the newlyweds honeymooned in Cozumel, Mexico. “It was great to relax spend our first days as a married couple in such a beautiful place. We had so much fun there and had a chance to experience a lot of different things.”
Married life is great, as the couple feels they grow closer every day. They recently bought a house and care for a dog and two cats. “We still take each other out on dates and make sure our relationship with God is growing.”
Sounds like these two know the secret to a successful, loving marriage. It was a pleasure to be a part of their wedding! Blessings to you, Brooke and Caleb!
