When we saw the pictures from Ashley and Joe’s Western wedding last June, we knew we had to share! The two created a breathtaking day that reflected their shared love of the outdoors.
The bride and groom met when they both attended Northwest Oklahoma State University on rodeo scholarships. “We continue to rope and rodeo together and travel a lot of miles throughout the Midwest.” In true cowboy fashion, Joe surprised Ashley with a proposal while they were horseback riding on top a beautiful cliff overlooking red canyons “searching for a bull.” (That was of course a made-up story his boss helped him concoct!)
Ashley was from Eastern Iowa and now lives in Oklahoma, so they chose a venue somewhat in the middle. They planned their June wedding in Lone Jack, MO with a “Western & Lace” theme.
While back in Iowa the December before her wedding, Ashley came shopping at Hope’s. She found a beautiful lace Maggie Sottero wedding dress and chose the peach color from Bill Levkoff for her bridesmaid dresses. “Hope’s had a very wide variety of dresses and I was very fortunate leave my appointment with not only my wedding dress ordered, but also had my bridesmaid dresses picked out too. Hope’s was also able to get my dress sooner than I had ever expected which was so nice to not have to rush my alterations since it was a tight turn around anyway!”
It was so special for us to have the opportunity to help Ashley not only because she traveled so far to shop with us, but also because her mom, Ann, was a Hope’s Bride in 1987. Ashley’s parents are still happily married 31 years later!
In preparation for her wedding, Ashley DIY’ed her own bouquets and boutonnieres of Sola flowers, which are made from wood products. She hand-dyed them to match her bridesmaid dresses! Because the venue they choose was already rustically decorated, she didn’t have to bring anything else!
We absolutely love outdoor weddings, but it’s always a little bit of a gamble. Ashely remembers it was supposed to rain during their ceremony all the way up to the last minute. It ended up being the perfect temperature with a slight breeze! “After we finished our pictures it let loose raining, and even brought a tornado less the 5 miles away! It didn’t faze anyone attending our wedding though; we danced the night away nevertheless!”
Ashley advises brides: “Don’t worry about the small things, at the end of the day you will be married and that’s all that matters!”
The newlyweds celebrated a honeymoon in Las Vegas in December, where Joe roped for the World Series of Team Roping Finale. Ashley says, “Married Life is great. It is such an awesome feeling to know that you have a partner right by your side to walk through life with!”
Ashley, thank you so much for being a Hope’s Bride! Happy trails, Ashley and Joe!
