Meghan and Kyler’s beautiful fall wedding was full of rich colors and special DIY touches. It was a day to celebrate a couple who has grown to deeply love and appreciate each other. Meghan says, “He is honestly the most selfless person that I have ever met. He puts everyone before himself, and he never goes a day without telling me how much he loves me.”
The couple met in high school when Meghan managed Kyler’s soccer team to spend time with her dad who was the coach. “On the first day of practice Kyler threw a soccer ball at my butt; I was totally caught off guard and apparently gave him a glare for doing such a thing!” Meghan laughs.
Though they talked on the phone nightly over the next couple of years, they took their time to become “official.” Kyler moved away to Indiana, so their first year as boyfriend and girlfriend was long distance until they attended the University of Northern Iowa together. On December 10, 2014, Kyler proposed after a walk around Morgan Creek Arboretum.
They began planning a fall wedding for October 1, 2016. Meghan came to Hope’s to find her gown, bridesmaids, and even her mom’s dress. She loved how Hope’s helped make her dress exactly what she envisioned by removing bits and pieces and says, “They were all so nice and helpful there!”
She recommends brides start their planning as early as possible. “There is so much planning that goes into a wedding, you’ll want to have the last few months before the wedding to make sure that every detail and vendors are to your specific needs.”
Starting early benefitted her, since she and her mom created all the decorations for the big day! She enjoyed all their trips to Hobby Lobby and Michael’s and the fun they had crafting together. It was particularly special that Meghan’s mom made her veil. “I was blessed to be able to wear something so beautiful and handmade by my mom!”
Meghan will always remember her time with the girls as they got hair and makeup done the day of the wedding. She describes her first look with Kyler- “The butterflies and feeling so happy as I was walking down the aisle to see my soon-to-be husband for the first time-” as her favorite memory.
The couple honeymooned in breathtaking Maui, where they went hiking, snorkeling, spent time on the beach, and even went to a luau.
“I can’t tell you how many nights he dances with me in our kitchen, he is always the first one to say sorry even if it isn’t his fault, he makes me a better and stronger person every day. He truly is a wonderful man and I am so lucky to be his wife.”
Thank you, Meghan and Kyler for sharing your special day with us, and for your inspiring love and appreciation for each other! Many blessings on a lifetime of dancing in the kitchen together!
