Hope’s bride Molly first met Tyler at a Cedar Rapids swimming pool, and their friendship grew through high school. Tyler eventually found the courage to ask Molly to prom their senior year! Though they went their separate ways in college, they got back together at a mutual friend’s wedding in 2014. A few years later, they were planning their own Iowa City wedding!
While dating, Tyler was finishing up Perfusion school in Iowa City. Because of his demanding schedule, Molly, who was living in Des Moines, regularly visited him on weekends. The city became a special place to them as they created many memories together. After graduation, Tyler joined Molly in Des Moines and they later moved back to Cedar Rapids together. On May 26, 2017, Tyler proposed on the steps of the University of Iowa’s Old Capitol. Exactly a year later, the couple married just down the street at the Iowa Memorial Union. The bride and groom Hawkeye fans were even visited by Herky at their reception!
As Molly was planning their elegant wedding, she tried to keep an open mind, do lots of research and remain calm. “There’s only so much you can control, so there is no need to get all worked up!” she says.
She visited Hope’s in Davenport during a Stella York trunk show, where she found her dress. “I was completely satisfied with the employees that helped me select my dress. No one was pushy and they didn’t constantly hang around me and my mom. I felt free to mosey around as I pleased and make the decision all on my own. They also had a great selection to choose from.” She ended up finding a veil and bridesmaids dresses at Hope’s, too!
On the big day, Molly and Tyler opted out of a first look, and seeing each other for the first time at the alter is one of their favorite memories. Molly also loved the emotional moment of seeing her dad before the ceremony and all of the speeches. As a personal touch, they had a video playing during the reception that included pictures of them through the years with as many of their guests as possible.
Five days after the wedding, the newlyweds ventured to Puerto Vallarta. “It was bliss! It was very warm, beautiful and relaxing. We spent time by the pool, the swim up bar, participated in yoga on the beach, got massages and ate wonderful food. We also went to a Cirque de Solei type of show via ferry to another island.”
Molly says that married life is great. She reminds others to always ask how one another’s day has gone and make time for each other. “It’s also fun to surprise each other every once in a while!”
We are so happy for you, Molly and Tyler! Thank you for sharing your gorgeous Iowa City wedding with us. It truly was a pleasure to help you and to see pictures from your big day!
