It’s a good day… to help girls feel beautiful for the Lord! Our family has participated in several mission trips over the years, and we usually start the day with a fired up, “It’s a good day…” Fill in the blank: to serve the Lord, to praise the Lord, to thank the Lord, etc. Well, this Honduras mission trip is one we are serving in spirit, and we are so thrilled! It’s a GOOD day!
Our whole Hope’s team gets to be a part of a mission to help young women at the Gates of Hope girls’ home in Honduras. According to Open Door Ministries, Gates of Hope can house up to 25 girls and their babies. Many of the young ladies (most in their early teens) have become pregnant as a result of rape. This home offers a refuge from the cycle of abuse, incest, and neglect that they faced on a day-to-day basis. The ministry is designed to give the girls and their children “a hand up, not a hand out.”
My church sends a group to Honduras once a year to do different jobs such as building wells, hosting a VBS, volunteering in an orphanage, and working with the girls and their children at Gates of Hope. Some of the people who have gone on the trip have become so attached to the girls that they now go down on their own at other times of the year, and they are about to take one of those special trips. Each October, the home celebrates the girls with a Quinceañera, and here’s where we come in!
Jo Ann, a wonderful woman from my church, provided Hope’s with the measurements of the girls participating in the Quinceañera and their favorite colors. We were able to find a dress for each of the girls. Now, the girls are just preparing for the big night on October 25! You can see pictures of them trying on the dresses for sizing- such fun! Jo Ann and her husband Les will be at the event to honor these special princesses and send us pictures.
Please keep this ministry, the girls, their children, and Jo Ann & Les in your prayers. God created each and every one of us beautifully, and it is so special that we can help these girls feel beautiful for their big day.
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11
Something beautiful is coming out of a dark past. These girls and their children have a new hope in Christ, just like we do. We are thankful to play a tiny part in helping these girls feel beautiful for their celebration. It’s one step in building a better future of confidence, safety, faith, hope, and love. It’s a great day… to help girls feel beautiful for the Lord!
Faith, Hope & Love,
