Christmas Cookie Time!

Do you have a favorite Christmas cookie?  We have two festive recipes to share with you today!  We had fun baking some of these over Thanksgiving weekend with Mom’s side of the family.  Let us know which of these Christmas cookies you love!

Mrs. Wasley’s Sugar Cookies – from Diane

1 cup sugar

1 cup butter

1 egg beaten

1 teaspoon soda blended with 5 teaspoons sour cream

1 teaspoon vanilla

3½ cups flour

¼ teaspoon cream of tartar

Mix the ingredients in order.  Chill overnight.  Roll dough out and cut into your favorite holiday shapes!  Bake at 375* for 6-8 minutes.


1 lb. powdered sugar

¾ cup Crisco

Dash of salt

½ cup hot milk

¼ teaspoon cream of tartar

Whip ingredients until smooth.  May add food coloring as desired.  Spread on cooled cookies and enjoy!


Red Velvet Peppermint Crinkle Cookies – From Naomi

1 box Duncan Hines Red Velvet Cake mix

6 tablespoons butter

2 eggs

1 teaspoon peppermint extract

½ cup crushed peppermint or candy canes

1 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon cornstarch

Preheat the oven to 375*.  Melt the butter and set aside to cool.  In a large bowl, mix together the cooled butter, cake mix, eggs and peppermint extract.  Add in the crushed peppermint and stir.  In a shallow dish, mix together the powdered sugar and cornstarch with a fork.  Take two spoons and drop a blob of dough in the powdered sugar and roll around until dough is completely covered with the powdered sugar (makes it easier to put into ball) and place on cookie sheet.  Bake these for 9 minutes.  (They won’t look done but they are!)  Take them out of the oven and cool for one minute.  Then move onto a cooling rack.  They will be chewy with little pieces of crunch!
