Collette and Brennan met their freshman year at the University of Iowa, sharing many experiences in the Hawkeye Marching Band and engineering classes. “In the past 8 years we have traveled the country, marched in three bowl games, snowboarded the Colorado Rockies, tailgated, road tripped, dined, wakeboarded, vacationed, spent time with family, tried new things and helped each other grow into the individuals we are today,” Collette explained. The two engineers graduated and found jobs in Cedar Rapids in 2010, and were engaged in 2013. On a trip to Disney World, the couple enjoyed a romantic dinner at the California Grill atop the Contemporary Resort. Following the “Wishes” fireworks show, Brennan got down on one knee, and the celebrations began!
They planned their modern wedding for October 25, 2014 at the Grand River Center in Dubuque. Collette found her Stella York wedding dress and Bill Levkoff bridesmaid dresses at Hope’s. “The service was superb (especially Ariel and Cathy)!! Everyone was extremely helpful. The selection of wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses was also excellent,” Collette complimented.
They also found experienced vendors they highly recommend for the photography and flowers. Collette advises brides, “Reach out to your vendors with any questions about your wedding day. They have so much experience and are always willing to help! Also, try to prioritize your planning. Choose the few things that are really important to you and don’t sweat the small stuff.”
When the big day arrived, everything was amazing. “I have so many wonderful memories of the day: our first look, the gorgeous weather and picture perfect blue sky, love and support of family and friends, our first dance, the unforgettable heartfelt speeches, I could go on and on. I think my favorite moment though was walking down the aisle seeing Brennan’s eyes light up and a huge smile come across his face as he waited for me.”
As a fun surprise, Collette and her sister choreographed and performed a dance to “Shake It Off” which Brennan and his brothers joined towards the end.
The newlyweds went cruising in the Eastern Caribbean on Royal Caribbean International’s Freedom of the Seas. The cruise made stops at Cococay Bahamas, Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas/St. John, Philipsburg, and St. Maarten. Plus, they spent several days enjoying Universal Studios Orlando and Islands of Adventure for their honeymoon.
Collette says, “Married life is great, especially now that the stressful wedding planning is over! My advice is to remember to show appreciation, even for the little things.”
Thanks for sharing your beautiful day with us, Collette and Brennan! Many congrats to you!
Photography: Flybird Photography from Chicago, but will travel to surrounding states: Visit their website
“Hiring Flybird Photography is the one of the best decisions we made in planning our wedding! The best thing we can say about Flybird, and what distinguishes them from every other photographer we have encountered, is they were able to capture the way my husband and I see each other. They are definitely a level above the rest of the photographers and we were so appreciative of their work.”
Florist: Konrardy Florist in Dyersville
“They have so much experience with weddings and were extremely helpful in making sure all of our decorations would match perfectly together. Between Flybird Photography and Konrardy Florist we didn’t even need a wedding planner as they both had enough experience to help with the timeline and make sure everything went as planned.”
